When is the Tipping Point for Investing In Technology?

That New Server. Do you really need to drop a few grand on another server this year? Can't it wait until next year? Isn't there some "cloud" to put it on or something? Greg, a friend of mine who runs a job shop, has had the same server for seven years. He's had the same box for so long that even Microsoft has given up marketing to him. Why? Because his business has had no major change to its software systems. So if it isn't broke, no need to fix. But even Greg has to bite the bullet at some point. And that point will be when he upgrades his accounting software (see below). New software is a tipping point for a new server. Other tipping points are even more obvious. Like hearing funny noises. That's another tipping point. Finally, if you're the kind of person who doesn't like to deal with things breaking, then avoid Greg's situation. Replacing your server every three years or so will expose you less to IT geeks playing plumber with your most valuable data. Call Perfect Integration today, these server specialists will get you a quote on a new server. (760) 929-2319.

Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Software. What's the tipping point for buying CRM software? This is not a gray issue; it's black and white. It's strictly mathematical. You buy CRM software because you can mathematically prove that it will help you get more sales. How? By making sure that all quotes are being pursued to their very end. By making sure customers who haven't heard from you in the past six months are hearing from you. By making sure prospects who may in the future think about buying something you sell are hearing from you frequently enough to make them come to you first. By making sure you don't look like a dope when customers call because you don't know who communicated with them last and what problems they may be having. Think of all of all these situations you've encountered in the past three years, calculate how much revenue you've lost, and then compare that against the cost of a CRM system—and voilĂ ! You have your answer. Here's another tipping point: You suddenly discover that the airline industry provides better customer service than your company. That's enough to make anyone take action.

Virtualization. We hear this term, and many of us still aren't getting our arms around what it all means. It's actually pretty simple. With virtualization, a business owner can take all of the stuff running on 10 servers and make it run on just one or two servers. Less space. Less energy. Less management time. Now we get it! Except that virtualization is still slow catching on in the small business universe (I mean those of us with less than a few servers in our offices). So here's how to know you're at the tipping point. By consolidating your servers down to just one or two, will the savings mentioned above outweigh the cost of the new servers and the propeller-head guy you'll need to set all of this up, including migrating all of your existing systems? If yes, then great. If no, then ignore virtualization for now, and spend your money somewhere else.
Buying technology is no tougher than buying that piece of equipment for your shop floor. The tipping point for any major acquisition is to make sure, plainly and clearly, that there's a measurable return on investment.

Which of these technologies would you be willing to look into and decide your own company tipping point? Can the return on investment turn your company around?

Watch the video below for a better understanding of what technologies to invest in:

How to Survive In This Weak Economy

#1) If Layoffs Are an Option, Layoff In-House IT and Replace With Managed Services

• You will get the same IT services with a Pro-Active 24/7 Monitoring system

• You will Save tens of thousands of dollars by cutting costs on un-needed salary expenses

#2) How Will I Know When Something Is Wrong With My Computers?

• Once error reports happen on your server it will automatically produce work orders

• We will repair remotely or come on-site if needed

#3) How Much Saving Will I See If I Decide To Switch?

• Minus the monthly salary you already pay for your In-House IT Staff

"Is your office prepared the next time your server goes down?"

We have FINALLY uncovered the hidden Technology Mistakes your current IT Vendor does not want you to know about!

San Diego, CA. October 19, 2008 - Does your business have a Server? I'm sure it does, BUT does it have the proper disaster recovery solution in place? 90% of businesses that experience server crashes THOUGHT they had proper data back-up, server redundancy, or a fail-over system in place. More times than not, When your office server goes down, its takes hours, sometimes even days to get back up & running. Not to mention the costly emergency rates that apply for this server failure.

What is a server?- A server is the brain of your offices computers and network. Will your office be ready the next time your server goes down? When was the last time you TESTED your last back-up? Are you using tape Back-up? Did you know that tape back-up has the highest failure rate? How long can your office afford to be down? How much will this downtime cost your business?

Don't gamble with your server! You can have a sure bet with the TEAM at Perfect Integration- San Diego's most TRUSTED IT Server Specialists."

It has been a pleasure working with you and your company during the recent technological overhaul for my practice in Oral Surgery. You and your staff were on time and on budget and always responded immediately to any request for assistance during the upgrade. I am happy to recommend you to any practice that is contemplating an IT upgrade or overhaul”.

Analysis of Final Debate 2008 Canidates- Obama Vs. McCain

After coming off the previous 2 debates, McCain seemed to be the underdog. Compared to Obama, McCain in less charismatic, less eloquent, and has a somewhat shorter fuse which i noticed throughout the debate. I also recognized that Obama started talking into the camera more compared to his previous debates instead of just looking at the mediator. McCain used a more combined approach; talking to the camera, and the mediator. McCain really hit on some strong points like the Ayers and Acorn connection to Obama, and his buddies in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
McCain has a great resume and should of stuck to that more. Obama fails to realize McCain's long record of bi-partisan leadership over the years, and i believe McCain could of hit on this strong leadership point much more during the debate. Obama kept his cool about his connection to Ayers and Acorn, but never reputed some poor comments from the campaign trail. I also felt that Obama does not answer questions as directly as McCain and talks around the issue, like the 280,000$ for Acorn... Obama is trying to portray a new leader role for a new generation, but i think personally his resume does not support him enough to become the next president. I really laughed at and enjoyed the comment McCain made to Obama that he wasn't George W. Bush, and perhaps if he wanted to compare him to George Bush, he should of run in against him in 2004. This was McCain's strongest debate, but i don't think it was enough to persuade the independents and liberal conservatives still un-decided. The positive leadership styles of McCain seemed to be his passion about the topics, his military background, and more of an authoritative style for this debate. Obama's leadership style was more charismatic Democratic compared to that of McCain, but i still think the fact that Obama constantly agrees with McCain says something about Obama's little experience and lack for support of small businesses.

Tech Trends that Challenge and (Sometimes) Disturb You

The widespread use of technology requires small business leaders to have more knowledge about how to use these tools -- and avoid their pitfalls -- than ever before.

Technology is a good thing. It helps you be productive and save money. But I’ve noticed two technology themes recently that, depending how you look at them, are not always such positives in business. First, the increasing availability of technology requires more knowledge by small business owners about technology and how to use it than ever before. Second, it’s a jungle out there and technology is being used as a weapon by some, requiring that you be forewarned -- and forearmed.

Let’s look at five technology trends that can place extra demands on business:

More browsers

Once upon a time there were two browsers, Netscape and Internet Explorer. Then the browser war ensued, and for a while there was one main browser. Fast forward a few years and it seems like everyone is getting into the browser act, with Microsoft, Apple, and Mozilla now offering browsers. Even Google recently jumped into the browser fray, releasing its brand spanking new Chrome browser. And business associates of mine swear by the Flock browser for social media activities. Wikipedia lists dozens of browsers, although market share resides in a handful.

The upshot: With today’s emphasis on software as a service, eventually you will run into online applications that don’t work properly on a given browser. That means you may need to have two or three browsers installed on your computer, so you have a backup if one doesn’t work. That also means two or three browsers you have to keep updated for new releases, keep your bookmarks and settings updated, etc. And if you are running a website or Web application, you now have more browsers to worry about testing for compatibility. Even a small design tweak can throw off how your site looks or operates in certain browsers.

Scraper sites

RSS feeds are wonderful, because they make it more convenient for you as the reader to monitor and read content. However, they have given birth to a particularly putrid form of parasite called the scraper site (sometimes affectionately known as a splog, or spam blog). Scraper sites “scrape” RSS feeds and put your content into their own site. Usually these sites attempt to make advertising revenue off of YOUR content.

The upshot: Trying to deal with scraper sites can make you feel like you are playing the carnival game “Whack a Mole.” As soon as you report one scraper site to Google and it goes away, another pops up. But don’t let that dissuade you from reporting them. Also, make sure you delete trackbacks from scraper sites (no sense sending traffic to them). You might also embed links back to your site in your RSS feed. With WordPress, for instance, the "RSS footer" plugin will insert the URL for each original article inside your feed, making it harder for some to scrape your feed without giving you credit.

Twitter spam and Facebook imposters

Even the social networking sites are attracting spammers, hackers, and other bad actors. Twitter accounts that consist of spam, XXX-rated content, and other offensive or unnecessary things are growing in number. Twitter and Facebook imposters are fairly common -- even Seth Godin says that the Twitter account under his name is not him. Facebook accounts have also gotten hacked or hijacked. For instance, a hacker managed to compromise a Facebook app and placed a highly offensive image on my Facebook profile. I could not block or delete the image. Eventually Facebook had to step in and delete it.

The upshot: Today you and your business increasingly have a presence on or through multiple social sites and applications. That’s good, because it spreads your brand. But it also brings the burden of monitoring your presence regularly, or you could end up “following” a XXX-rated thread or displaying on your profile a racially offensive image that could smear your reputation by association. And you should take preemptive action, going out to popular social media sites and signing up for the use of your name and/or business brand, to prevent imposters from profiting off of your hard work.

Hacking epidemics

Not long ago, I was checking out a friend’s blog and saw a strange homepage. Instead of a blog, the homepage now was a link farm. If you clicked on any links they took you to a Russian website. Turns out, an iframe code had been inserted in the blog, hijacking it. This sleazy tactic is just the latest in an all-out epidemic of hackings hitting small business blogs and other websites. It used to be that you didn’t need to worry much about hackings unless you had an ecommerce site or collected credit card or sensitive customer data. Now, informational websites and blogs are a target.

The upshot: Blogging and having a small business website have become more complex. And if you do not have outside tech help, it’s up to you to educate yourself about security issues and take steps to protect your site. (As if you needed one more thing on your plate.) For those of you using WordPress, I’ve written some tips for protecting your WordPress site.

Intrusive anti-malware apps

Anybody who doesn’t know by now that they should have anti-virus/firewall/Internet security software installed on their computers needs a bop on the head. There’s no excuse not to protect your computers -- and avoid inadvertently spreading malware. But sometimes good things go wrong, as this post pointed out about an Internet security program that in its efforts to protect you, interferes with your work, slows down your system, and forces you to do things its way rather than your way.

The upshot: Look for security programs that manage a balance between security and protecting you from malware. Read user reviews online specifically touching that issue.

Technology is a wonderful thing, but it WILL take more of your time and knowledge to be effective in an increasingly tech-centric world.

Top 4 Reasons for Computer Failure

PCs are more reliable than they used to be, but when it does fail who can you turn for help? Desktops and notebooks bought in the period 2003-2004 were more likely to experience hardware failures than those purchased in 2005 and 2006. Technology is always changing and as time passes maybe we can see major hardware improvements where hardware failure is not such a problem. The only problem is we live in the NOW and hardware failure is happening in offices everyday around the globe. This is where Perfect Integration comes in.

The Director of Operations, Justin French states, “A hardware failure is any incident that requires a component to be replaced”. This can be a hard drive, server, or CD ROM drive. Unsurprisingly, vendors like to keep the numbers private, but Perfect Integration said it gleaned enough data from third-parties and its clients to put a number to failure rates together.
First, desktops. Systems bought in 2003 and 2004 had a seven per cent likelihood of failure in the first year, rising to 15 per cent by the fourth year of usage. The year-one failure rate fell to five per cent for systems bought in 2005 and 2006, French said. It's projecting a year-four failure rate of 12 per cent for these machines.

Notebooks
Notebooks are less reliable than desktops, but that's only to be expected, but the reliability improvement is better. Notebooks bought in 2003 and 2004 had a failure rate of 20 per cent, rising to 28 per cent by year four. Laptops acquired since then have a 15 per cent likelihood of failure in the first year, and Gartner projects a four-year failure rate of 22 per cent.

Hardware
Hardware failures centre on the usual suspects. For both notebooks and desktops, motherboards and hard drives are the most likely components to fail. With laptops, you can add latches, hinges, feet, cases, keyboards and screens, in that order, to the list.

Screens used to top the list, so its clear notebook makers are getting better at making more robust displays. Either that, or once bitten, twice shy users are being more careful with their machines these days.

Here is Perfect Integration’s top reasons for computer failure:

Top 4 Reason for System Failure

• You must purchase solid hardware
• You need to install windows critical updates
• Beware for pop ups that look like their from Microsoft
• Check your power supply and make sure PC/Server is in a cool place

Click the link below and listen to the Director of Operations for Perfect Integration explain the simple reasons for computer failure:

Call Perfect Integration today and get set-up on their monthly maintenance program. It's only $19.95/Month/PC so you can have a pro-active approach to catching system failure befor it occurs. Call our office @ (760)929-2319.

Computer network installation can be daunting but with a few guidelines you can install a good network at your home or office. Networking allows computers to share peripherals, and allows one computer to backup the data of another. Also networks can enable a single computer to act as an Internet access point for the entire network without the inconvenience of fitting a modem and telephone extension for each computer.

Planning
This involves defining business requirements and growth plans to build a framework for connecting computers and other equipment in the organization. Good network planning eases the process of a suitable network installation. Here users need to consider usage requirements and assess who will manage the network. Usage, maintenance, expansion and security issues also need consideration.

Hardware requirements
Once the planning has been done, the next stage involves understanding what hardware will be required and what hardware your network will support. This can be a hard task so don’t hesitate to ask a professional IT company like Perfect Integration for proper recommendations in this area. These recommendations can include back-up devices, uninterruptible power supplies, network printers, etc. Once this is determined by your installer, you need to understand how many network points will be required. Hubs and switches should have sufficient ports for the various connections. Also there should be enough scope for growth and expansion in the future.

Here are requirements Perfect Integration recommends for a solid infrastructure:

Have your server backed with a UPS surge protector.
• Have all the proper software and hardware for your network.
• Keep all cables strapped together to limit fire hazard.
• Keep your PC or Server in a cool place.
• Make sure you have all password and usernames in place.
• Re-install your operating system (XP, Win Vista)

Network design
Here various aspects like the kind of topology, network operating system, the right network interface cards and cabling needs to be considered. If the network is small, a basic topology like ring, bus, mesh or star may be used. But if the network is complex, a hybrid of two or more technologies may need to be implemented. The location of the network cables, various devices, hubs, switches, servers, printers, firewalls, routers and modems needs consideration. Building or leasing regulations that may affect the cabling also need to be kept in mind. Security issues, both within the organization and on the Internet also need consideration. Perfect Integration has tools to use align all of these process so they work as one production crew.

Support services
Here you need to consider professional consultants, support staff, and Perfect Integration is a one stop shop for all the support you’ll need. You will need to consider the staff for management, security, maintenance and training. Employees will require to adopt new habits while using the network and sufficient training needs to be provided in this regard.
.....
Networks can help people share information, efficiently access the Internet, and work collaboratively. As networks become necessary, it is important to know which technologies will work for your organization. To help make an informed choice on what technologies, hardware and support systems to use, Perfect Integration offers its turnkey solutions that make operations seamless. Our services enable your organizations to install suitable networks that are easy to upgrade and expand.

Why Your Company Is at Risk Without Remote Back-up

How much is your internal company information worth to you?

If you lost all of your company specific information how much would you pay to protect it?

Now, with that number in mind wouldn’t it be smarter to invest that money into a back-up solution that will only give you 30 seconds of downtown for the life of your business.

If this sounds good to you then keep reading. Companies today don’t have any back-ups in place and when they get the blue screen of death on their server’s screen they spend tons of money to get them up and running again. If they only would have had a back-up solution in place so their network stayed together they would never experience any down time and instead of losing 30 of revenue, you lose three days of production.

Here are some benefits of remote back-up:

• Insurance companies will give a credit off your monthly bill you have remote back-ups in place.

• What will you do if someone steals your server with all of your company information

• Remote back-up is secure and off-site to protect your company’s information even in case of a fire.

• This is a supplement to local imaging back-up that happen inside your office.

• This back-up method is for critical data only. The most important core information must be protected correctly.

Perfect Integration, Inc. has the most innovative imaging back-up solution in the IT industry today and once set-up your company will only experience no more then 30 SECONDS OF DOWN TIME GUARANTEED!!

Has Your Office Out Grown Your Computer Network Server?

Most businesses today have a computer network with multiple computers inside their office. Now these computers normally have a central point that is considered the heart of the business, this is called a server.

A server is a technology central point for any business with multiple computers. Think of it as, the heart of an organization's technology. Just like a heart of a human, keeping our bodies functioning in everyday activities the same goes for a server in a computer network environment.

The server is allowing the information highway to run to each computer node seamlessly. Just like blood flow in a human body that takes nutrients and spreads them throughout the human body, the server does the same using cabling to transfer information to each computer within your office.

Eventually, the server will become overloaded with information, like an vein getting clogged from plaque not allowing blood to flow to the heart if an individual doesn't exercise, the computer network is the same way if you don't run a maintenance check on your server you can overload it and problems will occur. When information is overloaded slowness of information occurs and many problems follow.

Without a server running smoothly problems will occur and these problems could mean losing your entire network and revenue streams for multiple business days due to computer failure.

So you need to ask yourself how much is your information worth to your business?

Maybe investing in a successful back-up solution is worth never experiencing any down time for your company or even seeing that blue screen of death that pops up on your server.

So what should you do to protect your business?

Securing your data is the best investment a firm can have because it is protecting your businesses information. Using multiple back-ups allows your business to never experience any downtime and if they do at least your information is protected and you can have them up and running in seconds. These back-up methods range from off-site data housing at a disclosed location or even taking home an external hard drive after every business day in case of a natural disaster depending on the size of your company.

Click the video feed and watch the Director of Operations, Justin French better explain how to identify if your office has outgrown your server.

You should have your computer network server checked to see if your company is at risk for a computer overload and what back-up methods you can use to protect your business.

"We used Perfect Integration for our IT needs when we started our business. We made a mistake by using a different company. The reason we came back to Perfect Integration is that they are the most normal company to work with. They do not use technical IT terms to confuse us and are fair on price. They do not take advantage of us and help create solutions so we can make money in our business".

How to Set-Up Your PDA To Receive E-Mails

With the thousands of types of phones out in the mobile industry today, wouldn’t it be nice to receive e-mail directly on your PDA smart phone device?

Smart phones are taking over internal business processes because they give you instant updates on a mobile device in real time. This means you could be out and about doing your everyday business activities and still be receiving e-mail alerts as if you were in your office sitting down in front of your computer screen. How many times have you missed a deal because you didn't receive the email in time?

Businesses today are moving into a more mobile technology era. Being able to accept appointments on your e-calendar via your smart phone from someone working at the home office setting agendas for you is changing how business is done. Your whole day could be spent running around to appointments without ever going to your office. This will boost productivity, streamline business processes, and increase revenue for your business.

Nothing is a surprise anymore when you walk into your office and everything important has almost already been received on your PDA in an e-mail form. Response time to major issues is still up to par with using your PDA to reply to your e-mails instantly because it keeps up with the speed of technology without being at your office.

The world of the virtual office is here and being a mobile executive allows you to keep up with the speed and trends of the economy. Business users today need to stop waiting for the big fish to bite on their lines they need to be able to dive in the water and catch the big fish with their bare hands!

Watch below while Justin gives a real world example:

Call Perfect Integration Today, your Local IT Experts, and we will do the following:

1. Set Up your PDA to receive emails on the go

Perfect Integration says "No" to Internet Explorer 8 and "Yes" to Google Chrome

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 - Better, but not yet the best

When Mozilla released its later betas of Firefox 3, I quickly became enthusiastic about the open-source browser, which I still think is the best one you can use on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer.

That's unusual, because often I warn all but the most tech-savvy readers away from beta software. But Firefox 3 was stable and had features that instantly made it a must-have.

Now, Microsoft has released the second beta of Internet Explorer 8 and it up against another new entry into the market from Google called, "Chrome".

Perfect Integration after testing both web browsers says "No" to Internet Explorer 8 and "Yes" to google Chrome for the following reasons:

*Internet Explorer 8 is not compatable with Google toolbar
*It has too many annoying security options that slow you down
*Switch to Google Chrome for the best web browsing experience

My initial experience was not good, with IE8 crashing and, at one point, breaking the ability of Windows Live Writer to copy and paste. I eventually uninstalled it from my primary test system, a Windows Vista installation running in Parallels 3 on my iMac.

While I liked IE8's new features, the instability put me off, and the result was a blog post on Wednesday that wasn't very positive as you'll see in my video below.

I'm not sure I'd advise putting it on a system you rely on to do serious work. You may want to wait for a release candidate, or the finished version, which should come late this year or early next. try out Google Chrome until then you won't be sorry!

That said, there are some very intriguing features in IE8. It's a little faster than IE7, but doesn't match Google Chrome's remarkable speed. And Google makes it easier to find what you're looking for, and to quickly make use of that information once you track it down.

Switch to Google Chrome for your in-office web-browser and notice the speed difference right away.

Click the video below for a more detail explanation of why Perfect Integration says, "No" to Internet Explorer 8.

Here is a testimonial from one of our valued clients.

San Diego Clients in Carlsbad have power issues causing downtime for computers and network

Today was a hectic day for IT work in San Diego. Emergencies popped up all over Carlsbad with various clients experiencing power issues which caused some of their IT equipment, servers, pc's, computers, and networking equipment to experience glitches and some components even went bad. The diagnosis was that it was a power issue caused by SDG&E in Carlsbad and i even spoke to them in the streets and I explained my concern for the clients of Perfect Integration. Needless to say, we we are able to attend to all the clients concerns, get them back up and running, and put them in touch with SDG&E to issue a claim for possible reimbursement for the downtime and costly repair bills the power spike/ surge/ blown transformer in Carlsbad caused.

I am glad we were able to get local customers back up and running on their business computer services in a timely manner as their businesses are HEAVILY dependent on technology to drive their business and downtime is never desired. That is why they choose perfect integration for their San Diego computer and IT consulting services.
